This training will provide clinicians with a clear understanding of the definition, history, spectrum, and concept of narcissism and narcissistic abuse. Training areas of focus include understanding the harmful effects of narcissistic abuse on clients, learning to identify narcissistic traits and behaviors, and understanding how narcissism in relationships damages victims’ self-concept, agency, and relationship expectations. Attendees will learn how to identify primary goals of treatment, and to understand potential risks and challenges in treating this population.
Objectives include:
1. Demonstrate nuanced understanding of the behaviors, relational patterns, family dynamics, and definition of narcissistic abuse.
2. Formulate a detailed conceptualization of a narcissistic family of origin and a client’s role(s) and expectations within the family structure.
3. Develop a comprehensive treatment plan for survivors of narcissistic abuse based on a thorough understanding of common pain points and long-term harm.

This course meets criteria for 3 hours of general continuing education by the Oklahoma Board of Behavioral Health for Oklahoma LPC and LMFT license holders, by the Oklahoma State Board of Licensed Social Workers (provider #20240088) for Oklahoma LCSW license holders, by the Oklahoma Board of Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselors (certificate #20250018) for LADC and CADC license holders, and for Oklahoma case managers (3 hours strength-based CEs).

Amy Marlow-MaCoy, MEd, LPC
Amy Marlow-MaCoy, MEd, LPC is the author of The Clinician’s Guide to Treating Adult Children of Narcissists (PESI Publishing, 2023) and The Gaslighting Recovery Workbook (Callisto Media, 2020). Amy is an internationally known expert on gaslighting and narcissistic abuse, providing training and continuing education credits for clinicians as well as consultation and mentoring for clinicians wishing to deepen and grow their strengths in working with survivors of narcissistic abuse.
In 2023, Amy founded The Courageous Heart Institute, a learning community for clinicians specializing in treating survivors of narcissistic abuse. She runs a private practice treating narcissistic abuse and complex developmental and relational trauma in adults, and has advanced training in multiple trauma treatment models, including IFS, EMDR, and brainspotting.
