Through a combination of theory, research insights, and practical exercises, you’ll learn the core principles that underlie the Gottman Method and how to integrate these strategies into your therapeutic work. This workshop will empower you to help couples improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen their emotional connection.
Participants will learn the Sound Relationship House Theory and how it can guide your work with couples, how to identify and counter the "Four Horsemen"—destructive communication patterns that erode relationships, and practical strategies for helping couples manage conflict and create lasting, positive change. Whether you're new to the Gottman Method or looking to refresh your skills, this workshop will provide you with tools and frameworks to enhance your therapeutic approach and support couples in making meaningful progress.
Objectives Include:

-Gain practical knowledge of Gottman assessment tools and interventions

This course meets criteria for 3 hours of general continuing education by the Oklahoma Board of Behavioral Health for Oklahoma LPC and LMFT license holders, by the Oklahoma State Board of Licensed Social Workers (provider #20250088) for Oklahoma LCSW license holders, by the Oklahoma Board of Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselors (certificate #20250018) for LADC and CADC license holders (3 hours non-specific CEs), and for Oklahoma case managers.

Shelley Madden, LPC
Ms. Shelley Madden began her professional career with the Department of Defense. She was responsible for deploying computing capacity to the military departments and throughout her career, handled high-profile projects, continuously looking for efficiencies and ways to reduce costs. She was awarded a commendation for outstanding service by the Secretary of the Air Force; was recognized nationally at The Computerworld Honors Program for designing innovative federal contracts and awarded her agency’s highest Civilian Leadership Award. After serving 27 years with DoD, she pursued her dream of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor and opened Gracelight Counseling Center, a private practice in 2011. In 2013, she decided to pursue intensive training in couples counseling and in 2016 became the first Certified Gottman Couples Therapist in Oklahoma. She also provides Level 1 and Level 2 clinical training to professionals for Gottman Method Couples Therapy. She has traveled to Seattle several times to support Doctors John and Julie Gottman during their Art and Science of Love workshop. She and her husband have seven grandchildren that keep them very busy. Ms. Madden holds a Master of Business Administration from Oklahoma City University, a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology, and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems from the University of Oklahoma
